Reaching for the Flag

Reaching for the flag was created for the Fire on the Water Dragon boat Race Art Show.

Fire on the Water Art Show 2017 is a Rose Festival sanctioned event in Portland Oregon.

My inspiration was the excitement of the final moments of the race, where the team member hangs way out past the head of the dragon to capture the flag and win the race!

I have chosen 100% silk Charmuse as my canvas for my silk paintings. I use a French technique called Serti to create the images. Using Procion dyes I paint the images onto the silk. Watching the colors explode across the silk is exhilarating. The silk fabric adds a luster to the painting that is unique to this medium.
